This Medal of Honor recognizes the pioneering military service of this Regiment, its devotion to duty, and its many acts of valor in the face of adversity.

The 65th Infantry is a Puerto Rican regiment of the United States Army that bravely fought and served the U.S. during times of combat, including World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. For its extraordinary service to the nation in the Korean War, the Regiment earned nine Distinguished Service Crosses, approximately 250 Silver Stars, over 600 Bronze Stars, and more than 2,700 Purple Hearts.

Congressman Pedro Pierluisi (D-PR) and Congressman Bill Posey (R-FL) of Florida, who worked together to draft and secure House passage of the bill to award the Congressional Gold Medal to the Regiment, spoke at the event, as did Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), who led the parallel effort in the U.S. Senate. In addition, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI), Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) took part in the bipartisan, bicameral ceremony.

The Congressional Gold Medal is the highest civilian honor the United States Congress can bestow. In accordance with Public Law No: 113-120, a single gold medal has been struck to honor the 65th Infantry Regiment, the Borinqueneers for its valor, determination, and bravery displayed during the Korean War.

On October 23, Tom Christensen will be serving as a moderator at a presentation of the Illinois State Bar Association LawEd series, "From Opening to Close - A Construction Trial and the Technology to Win Your Case."  This presentation will be in the form of a mock trial, and will explore the complexities surrounding a construction trial and the role of technology in presenting evidence in such a trial.

Following 20 months of contentious litigation and a five-day evidentiary hearing in the Circuit Court of DuPage County, Patrick Hurley's client was recently granted a modification of custody of her 12 year-old son and was further granted permission to relocate the child to her residence in the State of North Carolina, the court having determined that this relief was in the best interests of the minor child. The case involved complex child custody issues and featured the testimony of twelve witnesses, including the court-appointed Guardian ad Litem and a clinical psychologist.

Patrick Hurley's practice at Huck Bouma is primarily concentrated in the area of family law, where he provides counsel and representation to the firm’s clients in matters relating to divorce, custody, premarital agreements, and the like. He also handles a variety of other civil litigation matters. Pat has been named an Illinois “Super Lawyer” in the area of family law since 2013 and has received the prestigious AV Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
