Smart Phone App for Advance Medical Directives

Submitted by: Kathleen “Katie” May

The ABA Commission on Law and Aging has launched My Health Care Wishes, a smart phone app that allows individuals to store and access their health care advance directive documents in a .pdf version. It also allows them to store and access their essential health information and emergency contact information on their smart phones. In addition, the app sends the advance medical directive documents and other information directly to health care providers via e-mail or Bluetooth connectivity. The app is free, and is compatible with Apple or Android devices. For a payment of $3.99, the app adds many other features, such as the storage of health care information and documents for family members, synching to a DropBox folder, and a downloadable wallet card.
