Some Social Security Reps Are Themselves Confused About New Social Security Law

According to Forbes/Retirement, Social Security staff are telling people with 100 percent certainty something that is 100 percent false. This is happening in different parts of the country, in local offices and on the phone. These mistakes can cost tens of thousands of dollars in benefits.

On Nov. 2, 2015, Social Security benefit provisions changed dramatically, but the Social Security Administration has yet to issue final regulations with respect to the new law. The critical deadline under the new law for suspending benefits, namely April 29, is rapidly approaching. Earlier this month, SSA issued an emergency memo to its staff about the deeming provisions of the new law. 

This memo is an important tool for those who need to make decisions regarding deeming before the deadline.
